KCLSU Advice: What support is available?

Assessment season can be stressful.

By this point in the exam period, many students are already feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or under pressure. You might be trying to balance revision with work, caring responsibilities, health issues, financial stress, or simply the emotional toll that assessments can bring. Whatever your situation looks like right now, it’s important to remember that you do not have to figure everything out alone.

KCLSU Advice is here to support you.

We have a range of online resources you can explore in your own time, and you can also book an appointment with one of our friendly caseworkers for free, confidential support.

Here’s a little more about how KCLSU Advice can help during assessment season:

Free and Confidential Support

Speaking to KCLSU Advice is always free, and our service is confidential. That means anything you tell us stays between you and the adviser unless there is a serious emergency situation covered by our confidentiality policy.

A lot of students worry about asking for help or feel unsure whether their situation is “serious enough”. Please don’t let that stop you from reaching out. We speak to students every day who are stressed, confused, overwhelmed or simply unsure about their options.

Independent and On Your Side

KCLSU Advice is completely separate from King’s College London. Our role is to support students, not the university.

That means we can give independent and impartial advice focused on helping you understand your options and make decisions that feel right for you. Whether you are struggling academically, dealing with difficult personal circumstances, or navigating university procedures, we are here to help you feel more informed and supported.

Support Without Judgement

Sometimes students avoid asking for support because they feel embarrassed, worried they have made mistakes, or afraid they will not be taken seriously. Our team understands that university life can be complicated, especially during assessments.

You will not be judged for your situation. We are here to listen, explain things clearly, and help you work out your next steps in a supportive and straightforward way.

How We Can Help During Assessment Season

Assessment periods often bring up lots of different issues and concerns. KCLSU Advice can support students with things like:

Appeals

If something significantly affected your performance in an assessment, such as mitigating circumstances or an administrative issue, we can help you understand the academic appeals process and whether you may have grounds to appeal.

Misconduct Procedures

If you have been accused of academic misconduct or are facing fitness to practise concerns, we can support you through the process. These situations can feel incredibly stressful and isolating, and we can help you understand what is happening, check statements and prepare for meetings.

Mitigating Circumstances

If difficult or unexpected circumstances have affected your ability to complete assessments, you may be able to submit a mitigating circumstances form. We can help you understand the process and what support may be available to you.

As exams and deadlines continue, please remember that struggling does not mean you are failing as a student or as a person. Assessment season is difficult for a lot of people, even when it doesn’t always look like it from the outside.

Whatever is going on, KCLSU Advice is here to help you navigate it with free, confidential and independent support.
