IR socials led by me, will make this society the place to be!
In my opinion, social media is the indispensable communication tool of the present and future for our generation. Accessible, transnational and powerful: these are for me the words that best describe social media. These channels provide modern means for individuals and organisations to communicate ideas, opinions, and intentions rapidly through creative formats. Effective communication is therefore essential to reaching a broad public and contributing in a meaningful way to the field of public policy and social sciences in an academic setting.
My experiences as Social Media Coordinator and Awareness Campaign Head for a humanitarian student association in Swiss Secondary School make me a competent and capable candidate for the position of Communications Lead within the IR Society. My prior responsibilities included Instagram content creation and digital newsletter curation to promote fundraising events. In my senior year, I also served as President of this association of which the main goals were to organise events (Marchathon, Talent Show, Film Screenings), raise funds for research and spread youth awareness. My four-year involvement in this student-led society enabled me to develop key social media and leadership abilities. Moreover, in the summer of 2020, I volunteered as Project Assistant for a youth-led initiative in a human rights Geneva-based NGO. This experience helped me develop my time-management and teamwork skills in a culturally diverse and demanding setting.
High standards are important to me in my academic and personal undertakings. I strongly believe that constructive communication, dialogue and exchanges are the foundations of accomplished organisations. Accordingly, leading a society’s communications effectively is essential to its success. As an international undergraduate pursuing IR studies, I have personally benefited from the IR Society’s events, panels and resources. All of these factors make me a well-suited and committed candidate for Communications Lead in next year’s IR Society Committee.
