Pack your boredom and throw it out the window because (one of) your new Events Officers is coming! Hi, I'm Mukta, a first-year Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, running for the role of Events Officer of the Political Economy society. As the events officer, I will make sure the society is bursting with events, to keep people all throughout the university, engaged throughout the year.

In order to be successful in such a role, a good events officer must be creative, organised, qualities I acquired through my role as Deputy Head Girl during the last two years of High School. I am also a team player, having been Managing Director of my Young Enterprise, which will enable me to work effectively with other members of the committee, most importantly with the other Events Officer, Vice-President and Marketing Director.

My main ambitions if I got this position would be:

  • To organise events in advance and make sure everyone knows what is going on in order to get high attendance and create fantastic atmospheres at events. I intend to keep up the regular events ran by this year’s society which I feel have worked really well and attracted lots of people! In order for people to be kept up to date, I will work alongside the Marketing Director to use social media and create regular event pages so you always know what is going on and what is next.

  • Having a say –If I was elected as one of the Event's Officers I would try and make sure all the members (both of the committee and the society) have a say in the events that put we put on. If I got this position, I would always be happy to hear any suggestions members may have or views on things that we have done. I would put out online surveys and polls but also would be available via e-mail or the society page to take on board any suggestions members may have. I also want to put on a range of different events to encourage as many new members as possible, so there is something for everyone to take part in!

  • To build good relationships between different societies in order to be able to put on a range of different events. One of my main aims if I was to get this position would be to engage with other societies and put on more joint events. This not only gives members a wider choice of events to choose from but also the opportunity to meet new people and socialise!
