Running the greatest of all STEM

Hey, my name is Randall Liew and I am a first-year studying biochemistry. Throughout the academic year, I have attended and enjoyed multiple successful events organised by the current committee. Therefore, as a second year, I hope to join the biochemistry society committee as the marketing officer and support my fellow peers to the best of my ability.

Previously, I have always tried to play an active role in organising events for the benefit of my fellow students and improving the sense of belonging within the surrounding communities. Along with this, working with organisations to ensure that any funds raised have a positive effect on the world and go towards those in need of it. I hope to further this in my university experience, after spending a year getting to familiarise myself with the KCL community, and as a second-year, I aspire to support the organisation of events that hopefully will be of equal or better quality as the functions that I got to experience in my first year here.

From what I have heard from peers within the biochemistry society committee and from what I have seen from the organisation of the student/professor pizza parties, the STEM ball and boat parties have inspired me to attempt to match the previous committee and provide my coursemates, seniors and incoming juniors the same experience.

My past experience organising events, such as galas and balls, provides me with skills and experience appropriate for a member of the 2022/23 committee. In previous projects, being fully immersed in the community has allowed me to know what my peers want and expect of these events. I plan to use this same approach to really ensure the success of any future events. I am also able to work collaboratively with my fellow committee members and make certain that we are working as efficiently and effectively as possible.

If I were given the chance to be the marketing officer for the 2022/23 committee, I would provide tremendous support in the organisation of activities. I would guarantee that fundraising for the society would be maximised. I also would like to expand the options and designs for biochemistry society merch and hopefully increase sales. I hope to aid in the creation of an environment where students feel free to express any concerns and to create a strong sense of community and belonging within the society.

Along with the rest of the committee, I will try my best to make the upcoming year as amazing as the last for the biochemistry society.
