Hi everyone! I’m Canaan, your current Vice President as well as this year’s Fusion Advanced Contemporary Choreographer. Being part of Fusion for 2 years has been amazing, especially given that I have had the opportunity to compete at in-person comps now, and my experience in Fusion has prompted me to run for the role of Competitions Officer.

Above all, I believe I am well-suited for this role because I consider organization one of my strengths. In secondary school, I organised our annual charity fair, liaising with over 30 organizations/charities, and this experience puts me in a good position to organize KCL Just Dance It!, communicating with various parties such as other universities, judges, MCs, and technicians. In terms of managing Fusion itself, being Administrative Officer of KCL Law Society has helped me develop my organizational skills. Managing various spreadsheets with our members' details as well as enforcing the Society’s non-attendance policy, I am convinced that I will be able to lead our Fusion teams and provide sufficient support to choreographers to ensure their experience can run as smoothly as possible.

Below are a few of my ideas for the upcoming year:

  1. Communication with choreographers: as Competitions Officer, I would ensure, as mentioned above, chorographers get all the support they need and to do so, I will make myself available to help them by ensuring effective communication. Whether they need additional support in terms of refining their idea/vision, finding costumes, or cutting music, my past experiences as a Fusion choreographer and a Youth Assistant Choreographer with the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation equips me with the necessary skills to aid or find additional assistance
  2. Classes: I believe being part of Fusion is indicative of an individual’s desire to improve and commit to Dance Society (one of the best things about Dance Soc, in my opinion, is that there is something for everyone and you can truly define your commitment to the Society based on what you sign up for), therefore I would look in introducing technique/conditioning classes so Fusion members can develop as dancers and to increase our chances of winning at competitions
  3. Fusion community: I recognize that Fusion is not all about winning and competitions; having been warmly welcomed into Fusion since first year, I hope to build a similar Fusion community for our incoming freshers. Working with the rest of committee (and Social Secs in particular), I would look to organize events for Fusion members to build overall team spirit and morale (hopefully to also ease the divide between classical styles and hip hop)

Being part of Fusion has played a huge part in my Dance Soc experience hitherto, and I would be honoured to contribute and build a similar Fusion community for incoming freshers and Fusion members.
