We Are the Home of Athletics at King’s College London

We are a friendly, mixed-gender club that caters for everyone, whether you want to train for your first 5k run, compete nationally, make new friends, or just try something new and get away from the busy city and work, we are the club for you!

To cater to every single type of athlete, we have many different types of activities and opportunities, ranging from:

  • Coached training sessions with Southwark Athletics Club

  • Social runs (last year we collaborated with GAILs for a few run clubs, which included lots of freebies)

  • Women's run club

  • Regional and national competitions

  • Free monthly track session led by one of the committee

  • Educational seminars on important topics (e.g. nutrition)

For those who want to compete...

We compete regionally against the other London university clubs throughout the year in the London Universities & Colleges Athletics (LUCA) competition programme which is open to all members no matter their ability, as well as nationally, where we compete at the BUCS XC, Indoor and Outdoor Championships.  In previous years, we have also taken part in the Hyde Park Relays and the UK Ekiden!

More information on the competition programme: www.london-athletics.com

For those who don’t want to compete and want to try something new...

We know that joining a club can feel intense, especially if you are new to athletics. It is important to us to include those of all abilities and that we focus on creating an environment where students can strive to achieve their own personal goals safely. Our current co-president Tiffany only began running the year prior to joining the club and was apprehensive about joining the club at first.

"When I joined KCLAXC I had never ran with other people, let alone an athletics club. I remember feeling extremely nervous for my first track session and I was worried that everyone would be way more advanced. I can definitely say this has been one of the best parts of university for me, and I have not only improved in my confidence on the track, but I have also really embraced the supportive club culture! I began to focus on my own goals, instead of what other people were doing"

We hold socials throughout the year to get that work-life balance, and we also go on a yearly summer tour. We have been to Sardinia, Malta and Croatia! As of last year, we have also introduced a winter tour which included outdoor activities at the peak district.

Women’s Run Club

Our women’s run club was new to KCLAXC as of last year, started by our co-president Tiffany. This is an inclusive and empowering space for women to run together, to feel safe and inspire each other to reach their goals. We always end at a cafe which gives us the chance to get to know each other more (plus a run should always end with a sweet treat).

Weekend Long Run

The weekend long run is a group run around one of the London parks. It will be organised by the distance captain but led by different members of the committee. There is no pre-set pace, and we may split into separate groups. The most important thing is that everyone is running alongside someone. The date, time and place will vary but will be announced on the Club WhatsApp group, accessible through our Linktree

Parkrun

We will partake in one of the London parkruns each week, and the details will be posted on the WhatsApp Chat a few days prior. It is a great way to get an early morning run in with other members of the club (followed by a spoons breakfast, a tradition started by our co-president Tom).

If you are unsure if you want to join, you are encouraged to come along to one of our taster sessions or for more information email our club presidents (tiffany.luxford@kcl.ac.uk or thomas.rickard@kcl.ac.uk). You can also message any of the committee on WhatsApp or dm us on Instagram.
