Become a Peer Guide and Help New Students Feel at Home
Starting university is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. From navigating campus to meeting new people and discovering everything King's has to offer, Welcome Week is often the first step in building a sense of belonging.
That's where Peer Guide Meet Ups come in.
As a Peer Guide Volunteer, you'll welcome a small group of new students and help them explore the Welcome Fair together. Whether they're commuting to campus, living at home, starting postgraduate study, or simply looking to meet new people, you'll play an important role in helping students feel confident, connected, and excited about their time at King's.
You don't need to have all the answers or be an expert on university life, the most valuable thing you can offer is your own experience and a friendly face. By sharing your tips, recommending your favourite societies, and helping to start conversations, you'll make a real difference to someone's first day at university.
Volunteering as a Peer Guide is also a fantastic opportunity for you. You'll develop valuable skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, and confidence, while gaining experience that will strengthen your CV and future job applications. It's also a brilliant way to meet other student volunteers and give something back to the King's community.
This year, we'll be running Meet Ups for a range of student groups, including commuters, students living at home, postgraduate and mature students, and quieter sessions designed for neurodivergent students. By helping to create welcoming and inclusive spaces, you'll support students in finding their community from day one.

This year, we're also introducing a ‘Meet Up Again Social’!
This follow up Picnic in the Park social will take place after Welcome Week, giving the students you supported another opportunity to reconnect, strengthen friendships, and continue settling into university life
You'll have the opportunity to volunteer for both the Peer Guide Meet Up and a Meet Up Again. By supporting students across both events, you'll have an even greater impact on their university experience and help create lasting connections beyond Welcome Week.
As a thank you for volunteering, you'll receive:
- A Welcome Fair Peer Guide T-shirt
- £30 One4All voucher for volunteering at the Welcome Fair Meet Up
- £15 food voucher to use at Guy's Café
- A personal reference (available on request)
- A Volunteer Certificate (when you complete a minimum of 25 volunteer hours during the 2026/27 academic year)
- An invitation to our post-Welcome Fair celebration
