While the ideal student would bring lunch to campus every day, sometimes that just isn’t possible. To help fuel yourself through lectures and tutorials without breaking the bank, we’ve compiled a list of affordable lunch options within walking distance of Strand Campus. 1.Route Strand | 3 minute walk from King’s Building

 

Route is a popular spot for a grab-and-go lunch just a few shops down from the entrance to King’s Building. Peek into their window display and you’ll see gorgeous pastries, wraps and an array of cold Mediterranean dishes. They’re never stingy with their portions and always offer a 10% discount if you show your King’s ID. Pair your lunch with their affordable coffee, find a spot on campus to chill – and enjoy!

 

2.Love Dumplings Legend | 1 minute walk from Maughan Library

This is the perfect spot for a library session lunch break. They offer £5 dim sum and a large variety of Chinese dishes served with rice for just under £7.50. Their matcha is also incredibly underrated, matching up to some of London’s more popular spots for half the price. The Mango Coconut Matcha drink is a must try!

 

3.Toklas Bakery | 1 minute walk from Macadam Building

Just across the street from Macadam Building is the popular Toklas Bakery. Head there before 11am to secure their breakfast deal: a delicious focaccia bacon sandwich and a coffee for just £10. They’ve got a spacious seating area with ambient dim lighting, with laptops allowed except from 12-2pm.

 

4.The Vault | -1 Bush House South East Wing

The Vault isn’t just for nights out – it's also the best spot for a cozy lunch break at student-friendly prices. For less than £7 you can mix-and-match a main and two sides, choosing from kebabs, chicken goujons to the well-loved curly fries. Whether you want to kick back on the cozy sofas or get your laptop out, the Vault is always a go-to!

 

5.Seven Dials Market | 12 minute walk from King’s Building

Head towards Covent Garden and you’ll find Seven Dials, a food court style venue filled with mini restaurants. While you may need to practice willpower to not indulge in the pricier options, there are plenty of stalls offering meals for under £10. From Kati rolls, Uzbek dumplings to pizza slices larger than your face, why not try a new cuisine every visit?

 

6.The Shack | Bush House South East Wing

The Shack is another KCLSU-operated venue located to the right of the southeast entrance to Bush House. The most affordable spot on this list, the Shack is perfect for a grab-and-go sandwich/wrap, with plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options too. Our student baristas are also ready to make a coffee or drink for you to enjoy!

 

7.Shake Shack | 8 minute walk from King’s Building

Treat yourself to their classic cheeseburger and crinkle cut fries combo whilst sitting inside the iconic Covent Market. While most single burgers go for just over £10, use their UNiDays discount for 20% off your meal, just show your UNiDAYS photo ID at the till.
