Every student at King’s is automatically a member of KCLSU, and this includes digital students too. While being away from campus may make it seem difficult to engage with the King’s community, we want to remind our digital students that there are plenty of ways to engage, influence change and seek support through KCLSU.  

Communities  

A common misconception is that student groups only interact in-person, but there are plenty of opportunities to join online. Many student groups have group chats where online communities complement their in-person events. You can chat, keep up to date with what’s going on, gain access to resources, and even meet other remote learners. You can also make your mark and contribute to a student group digitally. If student journalism is one of your passions, you could write for some of our award-winning media groups such as STRAND Magazine and ROAR News. You could also volunteer to help run your group’s social media - helping to boost skills for your CV and getting involved in student communities at the same time.

Staying Connected  

 KCLSU Updates is our newsletter sent to all students every Monday throughout the academic year. It’s the main way of keeping up with everything that’s going on at KCLSU.

The newsletter is also a helpful way to discover digitally accessible opportunities, such as online events, workshops, and career opportunities, with the occasional online student deal featured!

Support  

Should you encounter issues at any time during your studies, KCLSU Advice is here to help. Through email or online appointments, KCLSU Advice supports students with both academic and non-academic issues like mitigating circumstances, academic misconduct, and housing. It is free, impartial, and completely confidential. For more information on how to seek advice, click here.  

Democracy  

One important way you can influence change is by exercising your right to vote in the  KCLSU Elections. Elections are held in Term 2 every academic year, and voting can be done entirely online. By voting, you play a role in deciding  who represents and shapes the future of our Students’ Union, by electing six Full-Time Officers and four Student Trustees. 

You also play a significant role in deciding the future of any student group you may be a member of by voting for your committee members. Many student groups livestream their Annual General Meetings, which is when election candidates present their manifestos and answer questions, so be sure to follow their socials prior to elections! 

You can also engage with  Officers, Student Trustees and committee members online via email with any concerns, questions or feedback you may have. They will be able to help you directly or signpost you to others who can. 

Surveys  

 You can also help shape the Students’ Union by completing our student survey, which is sent out at the end of every academic year and is completed online. 

The survey is a great way to share feedback about your experience with KCLSU and represent your unique views as a remote learner. 

Covering key areas from students’ belonging to our wellbeing services, the student survey tells us about what we should change, add or continue to help make everyone’s time at university the best it can be.

 Being a digital student comes with its own unique challenges, but we want you to remember that you are still a key member of KCLSU and the wider King’s community. There are plenty of opportunities to participate online, and we want to make sure you feel supported, informed, and confident enough to do so!
