Plant-based Universities

Plant-based Universities - End the climate crisis.

We would like to King’s to rapidly transition to a completely plant-based menu throughout its cafes and restaurants, to be implemented as quickly as possible.

This is the next achievable and evidence-based step the university can take in order to continue leading the fight against climate and ecological breakdown, clearly demonstrate that it takes seriously the impact climate change continues to have on students’ health and wellbeing, and support the societal shifts required for vital global climate goals to be reached.

Campaign Development

For this to become a Union Campaign it will need to get 50 petition signatures from students.

Campaign Objectives

  • A just and sustainable transition to plant-based menus: We want to work with King’s Food as they transition to offering more environmentally-friendly, varied and financially accessible plant-based alternatives. We know that this shift is entirely possible for universities, with universities across Berlin responding to student demand for more climate-friendly options by adopting almost entirely plant-based menus.
  • Connect with other organisations such as ProVeg, which can offer advice on creating healthy and balanced and affordable plant-based menus.
  • We are keen to work with KCLSU, as the recognised representative channel between students and the university, to hold the university to account around its responsibility to lead the fight against climate breakdown and respond to student anxieties related to climate change.
