After completing my first season at KCLAXC I feel I have learned much from our coaches and fellow athletes. The committee this year have always demonstrated boundless passion and commitment to the club, and as a new member, I have felt highly supported. Continuously engaging in this environment has led me to apply for a captain role, as I feel that this embraces my skills and ambition.

I have a great passion for athletics; I have been running competitively for nearly 4 years now, initially beginning my journey through social runs with friends and family before transitioning to a more competitive space. Covid caused me to put my athletic aspirations on hold, as if starting from scratch; coming back to the sport has been a difficult, but rewarding process.

If elected for the role of sprints captain, I would look to work closely with other committee members, and take care to listen to all feedback regarding how my area of the club can be improved.

  • I believe that tracking and target setting is one of the best ways to improve as an individual athlete and as a team, with realistic goals set in place, perhaps through an interface. This will allow for determination and to allow the team to be the best they can be.
  • There’s a lot more to athletics than just running fast; sport relies on mental capabilities just as much. One of the most powerful ways to improve performance is to train the brain – sports vision training tools, combined with the ability to track progress, would reap benefits in both cognitive and physical performance areas. These can include response times, visual accuracy, memory, and so much more. For these reasons, I would like to implement a database where athletes can post advice both to keep track themselves but also to help educate others thus bettering our community.

Overall however, as sprints captain I would like to support our athletes as they rise to their full potential in order to improve the club, and develop this supportive and caring community. I understand that training can be difficult on top of studies, but I myself have had an admirable captain who has been fully engaged in university sport and I want to deliver that same encouragement and enthusiasm to the team, both in and out of sessions as I feel this is critical.

Being sprint captain would be a privilege and in that role, I would strive to do my best for the club and team. Taking on this role would be an honour and I hope that if I am elected I would do the best I could for the team.
