Accessibility of feminist theory, building a community, and ensuring the best quality. Vote for me!!

Hi, I'm Rosie, I’m a second year student studying International Relations BA and I am running for Editor in Chief of the Women & Politics magazine, The Clandestine.

I am proud to have been part of the updating and renovating of The Clandestine! So far as current General Editor of the magazine I have loved being part of both the writing and editing the work of all of our amazing writers. In this role I have edited all articles that appear on the website, engaged with the writers with direct feedback, and came up with column titles to give the website a clear structure and different takes on topics such as feminist theory, personal narratives, current affairs, cultural commentary and opinion pieces to diversify the collection of articles submitted by our writers. I am particularly motivated in creating a sense of community and safety for all, especially women, at KCL. I have found in my degree so far that women are still astronomically overlooked on a huge scale from academia to seminar discussions. Having been part of The Clandestine I would love to expand the sense of community I have found to more people who are passionate about bringing attention to women and queer people’s issues in all areas.

Why I am right for the role

I already have experience of the magazine having been General Editor - including how to find writers, having pitching meetings, editing, and the importance of having direct communication with the writers. I am very organised and like researching extensively and accurately, I am also sociable and am eager to recruit writers from a variety of courses and backgrounds.

My ideas

WRITERS - More events and online engagement

  • We had an amazing launch party last year and I would love to have another event like this where we introduce the magazine and some of the writers can talk about their pieces. Creating a more solidified sense of community and support - this is what I have found to be so strong and valuable in the W&P society as a whole !

  • Widening online engagement on Instagram through more interactive methods e.g. polls on stories that will introduce articles when they come out; information about feminist activity like good news across the world, protests, etc.

  • More events that engage potential writers or where writers can have a safe space to talk about anything they like e.g. each other’s articles, like contributors’ coffee or panels with writers.

THE MAGAZINE - Widening the mediums of articles produced

  • Maintaing the ethos - the personal politicised and politics personalised; making feminist political theory accessible to all

  • Recruiting writers from degrees across King’s e.g. history, biochem, etc, to encourage more varied articles that may appeal to different people

  • Encouraging more mediums of writing styles e.g. art, illustration, poetry, etc, which could be done in collaboration with KCL Art Society, for example.

  • Having an archival tab on the blog for previous writers

  • Keeping the magazine looking slick and clean, eye catching and cohesive

  • Editor’s pick

  • Monthly editions e.g. during Black History Month, and Disability History Month.

  • Having a physical copy of the magazine at the end of the year!

So… vote for me !

I would love to be the Editor in Chief for The Clandestine and more involved in the Women & Politics society as a whole. With me you can ensure engagement, fun, and the insurance of the best quality articles and aesthetics to reflect what Women & Politics is about.
