Candidate for the position of KCL PRASS (Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Society) - Event Officer

Danielle GAN

Hello, I’m Danielle! I’m a third year medic and I’m applying for the role of PRASS Events Officer. Despite being a third year, PRASS is a society that is rather new to me. I’ve always tried to keep an open mind in terms of deciding on a specialty, but increasingly, plastics has piqued my interest. Hence, I would love the opportunity to be a part of this committee, to get more involved with the society and the plastic surgery community.

The role of Events Officer appeals to me because there are a plethora of things that fall under the job scope. Not only would I get the opportunity to network with the committee and members during events, I would also be involved in the behind the scenes planning - from logistics, to publicity, to sponsorship. I am organised as well as creative, and so I see myself thriving in this role where they are both important qualities to possess.

Previously, I have been the Marketing Officer (2021/2022) and Secretary (2022/2023) for KCL’s Surgical Society, and the Asian Medical Students’ Association Exchange Programme Officer (2022/2023). All of these roles enabled me to develop my skills as a team player and good communicator, which I believe to be paramount traits to work well with a committee. Taking on these roles alongside a rigorous academic schedule also taught me competence in time management and prioritisation. This makes me confident to do a good job in managing the role of PRASS’ Events Officer.

More specifically, in Surgical Society, I took part in organising and managing our conference. This required good resource management skills across the various subcommittees, and I was able to learn first-hand from the conference’s successes and things to improve on. These are lessons I will bring into my role when working on event plans for PRASS. Similarly, organising an exchange programme for the Asian Medical Students’ Association required a lot of forward planning and liaising with vendors and organisations, which are useful experiences that I bring to the table.

I look forward to being your Events Officer and to follow in the footsteps of the amazing events that have been planned this past year. Please vote for me as PRASS’ Event Officer from 2023-2024, thank you!
