Candidate for the position of Theology & Religious Studies (TRS) Society - Vice-President

Shahir AHMAD

As a TRS Society Vice-President, I will listen to my peers and seek out their desires for events. Previously, being a first year undergraduate rep for the society, I have learned of the many ins and outs from assisting with TRS Society Events to taking minutes and giving input within commitee meetings. I believe, as a TRS Society Vice-President, it is a natural progression. I believe that it is quite paramount for our students to have events that are thought-provoking and engaging which initiate discourse and discussion, and I believe that I will be able to provide this for the society. As a TRS Society Vice-President, I hope to represent not only my year group to the best of my abilities but also the whole department. Further, I believe that skills such as communication and understanding are essential for a role like this and with my previous experience within society, I will harness these developed skills. As a TRS Society Vice-President, skills such as listening to everyone’s needs and voicing them correctly is a skill of great importance. With all this being said, I believe that I have the capacity to use these skills to benefit the society in event management and planning; this is a great opportunity and experience that will benefit all. As a TRS student, we learn of many different religious and philosophical perspectives and the experience of being a TRS Society Vice-President will significantly improve my academic output also.
