Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some vote for Mya to thrust greatness upon the KSC.

My name is Mya Kelln, I am a current BA History student and I am running for the position of president for the King’s Shakespeare Company (KSC). I have been a member of this society for the past year, with involvement in directing both mainstage shows.

I believe that this year firmly established the KSC as one of the university’s foremost theatre societies, and I hope to continue on that trajectory into the 2023-2024 season. As an enthusiastic leader, I believe my skill set is fit for the position and I am ready to lead the KSC into more success. Through my positive attitude, organization, and creativity, I am determined to keep contributing to this wonderful group.

While continuing our regular mainstage shows, I would like to go further in implementing some new performance opportunities. I would like to collaborate with the King’s Opera Society to perform Macbeth the opera, bringing in singers, musicians, actors, and tech teams across all performing arts societies to come together for an ambitious large-scale production. Additionally, some elements I would like to bring into the society are more socials to grow our community, both within the society and with other theatre groups as well. I would also like to have some smaller opportunities to connect, with events such as single scene nights, workshops, and nights out to the theatre.

I believe Shakespeare, and his contemporaries, are for everyone, hence why I would like to appeal to our society to a wider following. I want to create ways to involve people who may not be too keen on the theatrical side of Shakespeare. I hope to have a write-your-own scene event, collaborations with the History Society to talk about all things early modern, and open mic nights for sonnets and more poetry.

To outline my previous leadership experience, I was president of my school's student council and a senior member of the humanitarian committee, team captain for my provincial rowing, a coach, and a theatre director for various shows. I can assure you that I have the passion and abilities to lead the KSC next season.

I would love your vote to achieve these goals. To create the dream team,  I endorse Eliza as President, Jack Aldridge as Events Manager, Elektra Birchall as Social Secretary, and Lani Perry as Treasurer.

See you soon KSC!
