Candidate for the position of Economics and Finance Society - Vice President & Head of HR

Abbie JOPSON

My name is Abbie Jopson, a second year economics student, and I am running for vice president of the Economics and Finance Society.

Having spent two years with the society I am very familiar with the internal and external operations.  I began my time at EFS as an events associate and have recently been promoted to deputy head of events. Events are at the heart of everything we do, therefore this has enabled me to build strong relationships to those in the committee and our members.

First and foremost, as vice president, I want to carry on Lara's excellent job. I've been working closely with Lara for the past year and have always offered my assistance when I could, so I've learned a lot about what the vice president role entails.

Increasing our mentorship programme and better integrating it with our events and social events departments would be one of my major initiatives. A significant aspect of our society that frequently goes unnoticed and is kept apart from the rest is the mentoring programme. I would like to host more events surrounding our mentorship scheme to increase awareness and create better connections.

If I were to be elected vice president, I would also aim to increase the number of social events we have. Other similar societies have held balls and boat parties, I want to do something on this scale. Additionally, I would like to organise more committee activities, such as coffee catch-ups and nights out. I want to strengthen the feeling of community among EFS members and the committee itself.

I've had the honour of working with EFS for the past two years, and I've always been committed to giving back to society in any way I can. This year, I've planned four of my own events, including a one-day workshop demonstrating my suitability as vice president.
