Vanessa Rapson

Hi, my name is Vanessa (a second-year sport and exercise medical science student) and I am running for Welfare Director (PSRB).  As welfare director, I will represent students and their needs at the level of both the committee and faculty. I believe that running welfare events is incredibly important in maintaining well-being, meeting new people, and reducing stress levels. For example, we could host events that include painting, games nights, food, and snacks, movie nights as well as events specifically for 1st years - university can be overwhelming, and dedicating time to be able to talk to others, ask for advice and raise concerns is incredibly important. Skills that I believe to be invaluable are organization, teamwork, communication, and respect. Through being an Ambassador for KCL, working as the social media manager for EcoSoc, training with St John as a first aider, and being part of the KCL women's basketball team, I am confident that I have the skills necessary to be successful in this role. Additionally, these experiences have enabled me to talk to many different people from different cultures. Furthermore, talking about delicate issues is important and should be approached with the utmost respect and kindness; I will always do my best to make people comfortable and ensure any discussions are confidential. I will prioritize students' safety and ensure everyone in the society is content and confident in asking for help if necessary. Finally, I believe that I am very approachable and will be a friendly face for students!

Thank you!
