Candidate for the position of Women in Computer Science - Co-Vice President

Dudu Mswabuki

The change you want to see...Vote Dudu!

My name is Dudu and I am a Computer Science Student currently doing my Placement year as a Software Engineer at a top tech consulting firm. I am an International student from Zimbabwe and I am very passionate about creating inclusive and safe spaces for minorities.

I was part of the pioneer committee of the KCL Women in Computer Science Society, as the Social Media Manager, in 2021-2022 and I am determined to propel the society even further this coming year.

What do I hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected I as your Vice President I would aim to:

  • Arrange career events with Women from top tech companies to give the members of the society an insight of what jobs are out there for them
    • as a Placement student, I understand the value of knowing what the day to day of a tech job looks like and more importantly seeing it from a women
  • Increase the society funding by seeking out new sponsorship opportunities
  • Hold a series of ‘Code with Me’ sessions aimed at teaching our members (beginner - advanced) how to materialise their ideas, choose the appropriate coding languages and boost their confidence in coding
  • Increase society value by introducing a buddy scheme that pairs Women in CS with members in the year above, to help guide them and make the experience of being a minority in the course less challenging

I think these aims will have a positive impact on WiCS because they focus on helping the members discover and explore their interest in Computer Science, have a supported journey, if doing the course, and boost their confidence as future tech specialists all in a safe and inclusive environment.

What will I bring to the role

Leadership - lead large groups having been a committee member of KCL Women in Computer Science and KCL African and Caribbean Societies, and presently part of my companies Inclusion and Diversity Team

Organisation - organising events in leadership roles

Communication - run successful social media accounts and personal YouTube Channel (10k + Subbs) carefully portraying impactful messages

Personality - I am an optimistic person, and always bring positivity to events which I believe is key to a successful year

Vote for me for an impactful, elevating and positive year at WiCS!
