Candidate for the position of Women in Surgery - Vice-President

Sasha Nayar

Hi everyone my name is Sasha and I am running to be the next vice president for Women in Surgery society!

This year as one of the events officers, I have helped support and organise the societies events and I can't wait to help even more with the society next year. Alongside the other events officers we made this years panel event in December and the conference in March such a success and if on the society again next year I would love to help further improve and expand the society overall.

I believe I am a great candidate for the role as I have alot of experience not only with Women in Surgery society but also with others Kings societies, for example Neurosurgery, Paediatric society and the MSA. My experience and skills gained by being on these commitees will help me to fulfill the role to the best of my ability.

Ideas for the year ahead:

- I would love to introduce a fortnightly newletter for the society, this would immensely mprove our outreach to students and get the word out about our events and opportunities available to everyone!

- I would like to further develop the mentorship scheme by branching out to more surgeons from a range of fields, this scheme was extremely beneficial to myself in first year so I think expanding it is extremely important as the advice given by doctors to medical students is invaluable!

- Improve exposure medical students have to surgery, medical students especially in the early years have limited exposure to surgery, I would like to introduce a programme where medical students in first and second year are able to shadow a surgeon for the day to allow further insight into the career pathway

- Surgical workshops throughout the year for example suturing workshops, this would be a fun interactive event for everyone as well as allowing students to improve their clinical skills

- More wellbeing events! Medicine as we all know is extremely stressful and having wellbeing events such as yoga, drawing/painting and stress management workshops are important so that we support each other

- Monthly journal club, this would allow students to discuss papers of their choice and improve their ability to present papers, certificates would be awarded to attendees

- Revision and OSCE series

Vote for me!

Sash :)
