Sarina Sanghera

Hi, my name is Sarina Sanghera and I am currently a 3rd year medical student. I feel that I would be a good publicity officer as I aim to increase Women in Medicine’s presence on social media by posting more frequently and regularly updating the instagram, facebook and twitter accounts with exciting new content. Having been on the committee for Women in Medicine this academic year, I have learnt a lot about the commitment involved in being a member of the team and what is expected and required of me. I would love to have the opportunity to continue with my responsibilities and represent the committee for the next academic year as one of the publicity officers. One of the reasons that I would like to be part of this committee is because I am really passionate about giving women an opportunity to be appropriately represented in medicine as we can often be overshadowed and overlooked by our male counterparts. In school I was part of a gender equality matters society and attended events focused on empowering women and making them feel heard, and this is a message that I would like to continue to reinforce. If possible, I hope to use my role to inspire other medical students down the line as being a part of the society this year has made me feel a lot more welcome and included. The current publicity team have done a great job of creating aesthetic and eye-catching posts so I hope to continue this and build on it further. I consider myself to be quite up to date with current social media trends so hopefully this is something that I can bring to the table to try and encourage more interaction from followers. I have experience creating online graphics as I have fulfilled the role of publicity officer for various other societies this academic year, therefore I know how to make eye-catching instagram posts and use different online softwares. In school I was also on the yearbook committee which involved having the final say on a lot of the design and artistic aspects. Having worked in multiple teams before, I think that I am great team player who will listen to everyone’s ideas and work well with the other publicity officers, as well as other committee members. I am also well organised and punctual so I will ensure any queries asked on social media platforms are responded to quickly, with the appropriate advice.
