Candidate for the position of GP Society - Events Officer

Piri Kohilathas

I do believe that this society has provided me with great insight into life as a GP, and has made me consider General Practice as a potential career path for me.

As someone running for GP events officer, I do have a couple of ideas for next year. This year, I am aware that KCL GP society collaborated with Imperial and St George's to facilitate an online conference successfully. I would work with co-Conference officers to make this happen in-person with a day of "speed dating" mentor GPs. I would also try to set up wellbeing events like "relax and painting" sessions, movie nights or karoake nights with the wellbeing officer to allow GP society members to socialise with each other in less pressured environments.

I do believe that I am equipped to undergo this role due to my experience as the Secretary of KCL Gaana Society, which   was a novel society when I had joined the committee. This was quite challenging at the beginning, as we did not know what kind of role Gaana Society would be take in the KCL community. However, over the two years, we have grown to faciliate fornightly workshops for beginners and advanced Gaana dancers, as well as participating in two KCL Diwali shows. As a secretary, a lot of the work assigned to me is done before the event, so I usually try to make myself useful at the event by assisting the Events officers, which has provided insight into the role as an Events officer. Through this role, I have come to understand how to work as a team, in order to run events smoothly, and I hope to bring this forward when coming to work in GP society.
