Vote Veronica for Streetlaw Treasurer!

Hey! I am Veronica To, and I am a first year Law LLB student. I am applying for the role of Treasurer of KCL Streetlaw next year.

I would love to join KCL Streetlaw because I am passionate about legal volunteering. I believe equipping the local community with legal knowledge is extremely important in raising awareness of social issues. I find satisfaction in helping people with the knowledge I am learning at university.

If elected as Streetlaw Treasurer, I aim to secure the best options available in sponsorships and funding opportunities ahead of the academic year by continuing to effectively track the budget and expenditure of the society.

My objectives

  • Increase the diversity of our sponsors: Law firms, NGOs, and businesses interested in promoting legal literacy. This will give students lots of opportunity to understand our sponsorships and complement their involvement with the local community.
  • Allow our sponsors to actively engage in multiple projects, workshops, events, and networking opportunities.
  • Keep a clear record of our cash flow, with total figures and a breakdown of payment types.
  • Leverage our budget when considering membership payments or events that include payments by members.
  • Provide updates on our budgeting and monthly financial reports to inform the committee of spending.
  • Ensure that our sponsors’ aims and our aims for the society align so that our members get the most of our events.

Experience

Through these positions of responsibility, I have thoroughly developed how to work well within a team/committee and hope to strengthen my skills as Treasurer of KCL Streetlaw.

I have a sound understanding of KCL Streetlaw Society’s aims and events, and hope to complement the smooth internal process of the committee with my financial skills as Treasurer.

Financial skills:

  • Drawing from my internship in the Finance Department of a property company in Hong Kong, I am familiar with Microsoft Excel and making spreadsheets. This will come in handy when monitoring the Streetlaw’s budgets, accounts, and financial statements.

Volunteering:

  • As a KCL Widening Participation Ambassador and a Legal Mentor of KCL Pro Bono Society’s Legal Outreach Project, I enjoy encouraging state-educated A-level students to see higher education as a viable and accessible opportunity. I love sharing my legal knowledge, something I hope to continue doing within KCL Streetlaw!
  • As the Head Coach of the Basketball ‘Make a Difference’ (MAD) Programme in my secondary school, I increased my leadership and communication skills by coaching weekly basketball sessions for pupils aged 9 to 11 at a local primary school. I felt great satisfaction in coaching children who were new to the sport and spreading my love for the game.

Communication skills and Teamwork:

  • As the current Contents Executive and future Secretary of King’s IT and IP Law Society, I have loved working within our committee to increase our digital content and host some amazing events. As Secretary next year, I hope to strengthen and smoothen our internal committee processes.
  • I greatly value teamwork: having played team sports in school, performed in orchestras, and immersed myself in KCL society committees, I appreciate diverse opinions and voices as well as sharing my own. On KCL Streetlaw’s Committee, I wish to build strong relationships with the other committee members and work closely to achieve our goals next year.
