Hi! I’m Sophie and I’m running for the role of treasurer.

My primary aim if elected treasurer would to be ensure each show The King’s Players puts on runs as smoothly as possible in terms of finances. I produced the King’s Players production of The Three Musketeers and I’m currently producing the Shakespeare company’s production of Richard III so I know how stressful sorting out the finances for elements like props, costumes and especially rights can be. If elected treasurer I would communicate directly with producers and directors of shows from the very beginning of the process to ensure the rights for shows are applied and paid for as soon as possible to avoid having to delay the production later on. Additionally I would ensure a clear budget is set out for each show. Ideally I would like to give each show their budget at the beginning of the process, to avoid having any of the cast and crew pay for props/costumes out of their own pocket. If the KCLSU finance system does not allow for this however I would make sure any expenses paid for by cast/crews are paid back quickly and efficiently and I would communicate a clear process of how this happens to avoid confusion. As students I know many of us don’t have the disposable income to spend on shows, so I would like to avoid this  as much as possible. Putting on shows is a stressful process and I would make sure finances are the last of any cast or crew worries.

In addition to the society shows, I would aim to work with other members of the committee to organise and finance workshops and social events open to all members. Creating a community within the society is important to me, and I would make sure the resources we have as a society  are put towards this.

I will also aim to assign a budget for advertising to increase audience turnout to our shows. I know how hard everyone involved in productions works and our brilliant shows deserve a larger audience! Among other things, this will involve printing posters and programmes, as well as working with the social media secretary to increase our online presence in the build up to shows. I’ve had ushering experience in theatres so I will also help out front of house and manage ticket sales on the night.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in The King’s players so far and I would love the opportunity to give back to the society as treasurer! Regardless of the outcome I look forward to making more theatre with you all next year! Thank you :)
