Candidate for the position of Women in Surgery - Outreach Officer

Daisy MACLAINE

Vote for me to be your outreach officer! :) -mock interviews -personal statement workshops -BLS teaching -Q&As with medical students, doctors and surgeons

I am very appreciative of the significance of outreach programmes, as I myself would not be here without the workshops and mentors I received from an outreach programme as a younger student.

Encouraging and helping students, especially students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds to apply for medicine is vital to working towards more equality within medicine and surgery.

I believe that using our own expertise as successful medical school applicants, we could help set up mock interviews and personal statement workshops, as well as teaching BLS. I also think arranging talks or Q&As with doctors and surgeons could enlighten students on the realities of a career in medicine, as well as being a source of inspiration.

Arranging for work experience mentorships, shadowing, or even liaising and signposting students to other organisations that offer these opportunities would be extremely valuable to students who may otherwise not have access.

I am truly passionate about getting more students, especially those from working class and disadvantaged backgrounds, into medicine, and I believe I have the work ethic, organisation and communication skills necessary for this role.
