Candidate for the position of British Sign Language - Course Facilitator

Chloe Tsang

Hi everyone! My name is Chloe and I'm running for this year's British Sign Language Course Facilitator.

I'm currently a first year medical student at King's and I although I've only joined the club recently in Term 1, I've already learnt most of the basic signs and have been practising since sixth form. In fact, one of my closest friends grew up with parents who are both completely deaf and was a CODA (child of deaf adults) and after watching the 2021 remake of La Famille Bélier, I realised how much I took my ability to hear for granted. Since then, I've decided to learn and practise my signing, both within the BSL club and with my closest friends, and am also in the process of taking my BSL Level 1 certified qualification.

Being a course facilitator, I want to be able to host sessions where everyone of all abilities (including both hearing and deaf) are able to learn new vocabulary, practise their signing and communicate with each other regardless of the ability to hear. As such, I hope that I will be able to contribute to our BSL society and represent us as our Course Faciliator. :)
