Hi everyone! I'm Josheela, a second-year medic & one of the current outreach officers for the Anatomy Society. After spending the last few months growing our outreach efforts, I am running to be outreach officer again next year to further cultivate the 'She Is A Surgeon' project & establish it as one of the leading programmes of its nature within the KCLSU & hopefully across other London universities as well.

This year, my co-outreach officer & I have been very successful in creating high-quality & accessible events for medical school applicants. We have held detailed webinars on writing personal statements & perfoming well in interviews, which were very well-received by over 100 students across the UK. I also organised a weekend of mock interviews & established an free mentorship initiative. We also organised a BHM event celebrating BAME female doctors who delivered in-person talks to both school & university students from London. Throughout the year, we have had the privilege to support the professional development of the kind & dedicated medical/dental students from all years who volunteer for us.

It shouldn't come as a surprise then that I have several more ideas I wish to implement in order to nurture our students even further :)

Primarily, I am in the process of planning a summer school for our SIAS students which I would love to hold in summer 2025. I want to expand the scope of our outreach, as the challenges faced by students from a WP background often persist into higher education as well. This would include partnering with local schools to provide more tailored support to students who often have no other support in accessing higher education. It also includes supporting current medical students, especially BAME female students, in their educational and career development, such as networking & mentorship with current medical professionals & promoting research opportunities.

My time in this role so far has been incredibly rewarding & I feel extremely privileged to personally see the positive impact we have had on students with our efforts this year. With your vote, I can continue to help students get closer to their aspirations in spite of their personal hurdles & push the KCL Anatomy Society as the top of its kind in both academic and outreach activities.
