Hi everyone! I am Iyin, a third-year medical student running for the position of events officer for the KCL Psychiatry Society. I am a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and as a current Psychstar for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, I am a committed ambassador for psychiatry. The manifesto below highlights my vision for the events officer role as a dedicated events officer with a proven track record.

Why choose me?

  • Experience: I have years of extensive experience planning events for various societies and organisations. I have experience in organising and executing a range of events from revision sessions to external speakers and engaging socials. My experience also includes collaborating with the UCL Psychiatry Society and arranging events with research-focused societies at KCL, demonstrating my understanding of how to successfully implement diverse event types.
  • Understanding: I deeply understand KCL Psychiatry Society's mission and values. "There is no health without mental health" resonates deeply with me, and I'm committed to empowering future psychiatrists and fostering awareness for all future clinicians.
  • Passion: My passion for organising successful events is evident in my background and I thrive on constructive feedback as it is fuel for constant growth and improvement. I want to create events tailored to what you need.

My Vision:

  • Engaging Events: I envision dynamic events that cater to diverse interests within the KCL Psychiatry Society. From stimulating guest speaker sessions with renowned psychiatrists to interactive workshops on practical skills. I plan to curate experiences that inform, engage, and inspire.
  • Collaboration: I will work hand-in-hand with society members to understand your aspirations and incorporate your ideas into events. Collaboration is key to fostering a sense of ownership and ensuring events resonate with everyone. My diverse background has equipped me with strong networks within and external to the Kings' community enabling collaborative events in the future.
  • Widening Reach: Building upon "Psych 4 6th," I will work closely with the outreach officers to support the outreach programs with engaging events to strengthen the connection of the society within diverse communities, raising awareness of mental health and showcasing the rewarding path of psychiatry. Additionally, I want to reach out to students within the King's community who may feel a barrier around Psychiatry.
  • Mental Health Advocacy: I will leverage events to platform important conversations surrounding mental health, highlighting diverse voices and challenging and empowering individuals to seek support.

Together, we can:

  • Empower future psychiatrists: Equip members with the skills, confidence, and practical knowledge to excel.
  • Raise awareness: Break down barriers and misconceptions surrounding mental health, highlighting the importance of understanding mental health advocacy for all clinicians and fostering a more informed and empathetic community.
  • Build a vibrant society: Cultivate an inclusive and accessible space where members feel supported, engaged, and inspired to make a difference in the field of psychiatry.

Vote for me, and vote for action, collaboration, and making a real difference. Vote for me, and vote for experience, passion, and a shared vision for the future of KCL Psychiatry Society.

Thank you for considering my candidacy.
