Improve the Art of Communication

Hi everyone! I am Aya Mussina and I do first year History and International Relations, but I absolutely love doing character art and design in my spare time. Joining this society made me realize I wanted to be more involved in the art sphere of King’s, but the thing I was most keen on was improving communications surrounding the society.

My objectives:

Number 1: communicate upcoming events earlier in advance. I have noticed event details being released quite late, sometimes released on the day before the event. This gives little time to plan and many people struggle to attend on such short notice. As much as possible, I’d like to improve the speed of relaying communication to people and improve people turnout!

Number 2: push for greater variety of dates! This is a huge complaint I hear from many other society members, that I personally struggle with as well. I’d like to implement greater diversity in art event implementation. Holding regular discussion and communicating with the study body will help raise this concern to the higher level and change the current system!

Number 3: Update the Linktree. There are some outdated links to the tree that do not apply to the society anymore (Ticket Refund Policy), so changing it will improve communication speed of any inquiries.

Number 4: Reply to DMs faster on Instagram and WhatsApp. The Art society overall is incredible at being communicative and speedy, but I believe I can improve the speed of return even more!

Number 5: Enable a mailing events system. I’ve observed other societies emailing others of major events going on in their societies, and, on a personal level, it helped me remember to attend more events than I would have. The Art society is amazing at hosting very frequent events, so while I won’t plan on sending tons of weekly emails, I believe emailing upcoming monthly event plans and big opportunities is a great plus.

Number 6: Regular check ups on what can be improved upon. Communications is a two way system! I would like to hold feedback forums every term to see what complaints, comments, and advice people want to relay to the committee. There would also be an all year form created in case you have a query right now.

Number 7: Help create, include, and promote a Q&A section on the Linktree. There are common questions I notice being asked very frequently, so creating and heavily (!) promoting the Q&A page will hopefully ease people’s answer searches.

Communications is a skill that I have been honing since the start of high school. In the past, I have had leadership roles in many clubs and societies (National Honor Society, Student Council, Math Olympiad, Varsity Volleyball) but due to me knowing the local language of me country and English, I was delegated a majority of communications tasks between my international school and the outside world. Additionally, currently at KCL, I’m the 1st year Representative of History and IR first years, and I primarily deal with communications between the admin and students, relaying events to students, student inquiries to the admin. This included creating eventbrite pages, poster designs, and frequent messaging. So I have communication experience at the school level already!

On the artistic side of things, I spent a decade in opera theatrics, and I draw a lot of cartoony character design art digitally and traditionally! I also love sculpting and crocheting (the latter skills being shown at an event where I helped Art soc admin to spontaneously lead the event). As you can tell, I am incredibly passionate about art, and I would love to help elevate this already fantastic society to greater heights! Thank you :)
