Negotiate!

I am honored to present my candidacy for the presidency with Jayson Lau proposed co-president for the KCL Negotiation Society .I am a current member of the Events team with the Negotiation Society who has previously won an Environmental Law Negotiation Competition at King's. Being a competitor gave me the platform to practice public-speaking, interact and collaborate with both new and familiar people and situations, and strategise effectively to reach desired conclusions - skills needed to coordinate opportunities with other team members. It also made me acutely aware of the organisation and management required by the Society to successfully host and arrange various quality events, a process of which I would love to continue being a part in 2024/25.

Things I hope to accomplish in this position:

1. Establish a Comprehensive Mentorship Program:

  • Create a structured mentorship program pairing experienced negotiators with newcomers.
  • Provide one-on-one guidance, fostering a supportive environment for learning and growth.
  • Arrange regular workshops and seminars facilitated by seasoned negotiators to share valuable insights.

2. Skill Development Workshops:

  • Introduce specialized workshops focusing on different aspects of negotiation, such as effective communication, strategic thinking, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with industry professionals and experts to bring real-world perspectives and experiences into our training programs.

3. Case Study Competitions:

  • Organize case study competitions that simulate real-world negotiation scenarios.
  • Foster healthy competition, encouraging participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
  • Offer constructive feedback from experienced judges to enhance learning outcomes.

4. Networking Events:

  • Host networking events, bringing together students, alumni, and professionals from the field of negotiation and mediation.
  • Provide opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and expand their professional networks.

5. Diverse Speaker Series:

  • Invite guest speakers with diverse backgrounds and expertise in negotiation, enriching our members' understanding of various industries and sectors.
  • Facilitate Q&A sessions to allow members to engage directly with accomplished professionals.

6. Strengthen International Collaborations:

  • Establish partnerships with other negotiation societies and organizations globally.
  • Facilitate exchange programs and joint events, providing members with exposure to different negotiation cultures and practices.

7. Continuous Feedback Mechanism:

  • Implement a system for continuous feedback from members to ensure the society's programs remain relevant and effective.
  • Regularly assess the impact of initiatives and make necessary adjustments based on the evolving needs of our members.

As your co-president, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic environment where every member can thrive and reach their full potential as skilled negotiators and mediators. Together, let us build a society that not only excels in competitions but also serves as a nurturing ground for future leaders in the field of negotiation.

Thank you for considering my candidacy, and I look forward to the opportunity to lead and serve the KCL Negotiation Society.
