Candidate for the position of Dance Society - Wellbeing Lead

Linea Gladhus Manger

Hi!

I'm Linea, a second-year International Development student at KCL. Dancing has been a passion of mine since sixth grade, and it's always been a powerful way for me to express, share, and feel emotions. Using dance as a tool for self-expression, letting go, and losing myself in the music has been incredibly rewarding, especially during the challenges of student life and transitioning into adulthood.

I'm deeply passionate about the well-being of university students, recognizing the myriad of obstacles we face during this pivotal period of growth. If elected, I'm committed to implementing initiatives that prioritize your health and happiness, fostering a supportive and inclusive dance community where everyone can thrive.

The dance society at King's has been instrumental in making me feel involved and supported within the university. It's a vibrant community filled with creative and inspiring individuals who lift me up during stressful times. Through my involvement, I've forged close friendships and found immense joy in collaborating and learning from fellow dancers.

As a potential well-being officer, I believe in the therapeutic power of dance both individually and within the community. Some of the ideas I'd like to pursue include promoting physical health through injury prevention workshops, yoga and mobility sessions, and strength training. Additionally, I aim to collaborate with the social media and marketing officer to create educational content on mental health, coping techniques, available resources, the importance of nutrition and rest, and tips for managing busy schedules. One particularly thrilling idea I have is I would love to offer improvisational dance sessions centered around emotions. These sessions would involve various prompts, songs, and tools aimed at allowing participants to deeply experience their emotions. Personally, this technique has been immensely beneficial for me, and I'm eager to share the power of embracing and expressing emotions through dance.

Above all, I'll be here as a supportive listener for anyone who needs a friendly ear or a reassuring presence. Just as I've been embraced by the wonderful people in the dance society, I'm dedicated to ensuring that everyone feels included and supported.
