WELCOME TO ROME. It is a time of civil war. Suspicion and conspiracy have engulfed the capital of the Republic, as inexplicable omens shake the foundations of Roman livelihood. From the 3rd to 5th December, King’s Shakespeare Company brings to life the Bard’s most famous political thriller; a drama of violence, rhetoric, and paranoia. Inspired by Orson Welles’ 1937 Broadway production, the show aims to portray how paranoia breeds violence, and how public interests are manipulated by the power-hungry to serve their own profits.
Brutus is an honourable man. But when the interests of Rome are threatened by the ever-growing ambition of Caesar, Brutus finds himself roped into an assassination plot, in hopes of putting an end to the madness of his dear mentor and friend. However, the devastating consequences of his actions unravel when the opportunistic Antony turns the public opinion against the conspirators, sparking a violent civil war that bathes the streets of Rome in blood and fury…
