KCL Psychiatry Society was set up in 2005 as the first student-led Psychiatry society in the UK to promote psychiatry as a career, support those students who wish to pursue psychiatry as a career and raise the profile of mental health issues among all student health professionals.
We run a number of interesting monthly talks from different psychiatrists and allied mental health professionals, mental health first aid sessions and our own widening participation and outreach programme Psych for 6th.
Psych for 6th is a programme for year 12 students who are aspiring medical applicants, which gives a flavour of a day in the life of a medical student, offering teaching and clinical skills sessions around mental health. The programme aims to raise awareness of mental illness whilst giving medical applicants an insight into what clinical medicine is like.
Ultimately, our society strives to empower students who are passionate about mental health and interested in psychiatry. Our motto, that there is no health without mental health, emphasizes the importance of equipping students with the skills, confidence and experience to be able to engage in different psychiatric situations.
