Ethos:
We want to form a supportive community that allows students at all stages of education to guide and share experiences in order to best prepare ourselves for our futures.
Developing a safe space for like minded womxn-identifying students is important to us, in order to create a network where support, guidance and a sense of community is nurtured.
Although we are focused on empowering womxn identifying voices, our society and events are open to anyone regardless of gender identity or background who wants to join our community, or grow their interest in bio-related fields
Considering inequalities within STEM and bio-related disciplines, we believe that creating a community for marginalised or under-represented groups in STEM to share their worries and understand that they are not alone is crucial to our success in a male dominated industry.
We are dedicated to giving our members the opportunity to expand and build on their knowledge in areas that can’t be achieved in the classroom. Empowering these voices creates opportunities to redefine STEM industries and enact change.
Key to this is exposing female role models in STEM and encouraging networking opportunities for women to establish a peer support system.
Events:
Our events are all about blending education and fun together, with something for everyone! Whether you’re into themed sports nights or interested in mentorship opportunities with Roche, we’ve got you covered. We host monthly events that combine learning and socialising, ensuring there’s always something exciting for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s a taste of what we’ve done in the past:
- Our popular ‘Stem to…’ series: Ever wondered how STEM graduates transition into industries like fashion, law, or consulting? Our inspiring speakers share their journeys and tips on making the change.
- Charity events: From bake sales supporting Stonewall to game nights raising funds for Black History Month, we love coming together to make a difference.
- Bioscience Essentials series: Created by second and third years, this series is designed to help first years with their studies with peer support and expert tips.
- Wellbeing events: Think friendship bracelet making, hot chocolate sessions, and creative tote bag painting. These events are all about relaxing, connecting, and crafting something special.
