We're KCL Electronics.

The Society of Makers.

Beginners Welcome!

Whether you’ve only just learnt breadboards don't contain any actual carbs, or you’re ESPecially good with microcontrollers, KCL Electronics is the leading space to take ideas off the page and into the real world.

We are a tight-knit, student-led community of makers. If you want to build ANYTHING that moves, thinks, or reacts - from smart devices to autonomous robots - electronics is the brain and muscle that makes it happen.

No experience? No problem. We learn by doing, and all of our events are built to support beginners every step of the way.

What You Get

Your membership fee directly fuels your creativity:

  • Components: A consistent supply of components for our members, so you can focus on building.
  • Jam-packed Calendar: Workshops, events, and competitions throughout the year, further backed by our amazing industry sponsors.
  • Priority Lab Access: Most of our making happens in the state-of-the-art Wheatstone Laboratory, fully refreshed for 2026/27.

Basically, it's super worth it.

Our Story and Shenanigans

Now in our third year, we’ve grown from humble beginnings as a small, unratified group of a few nerds into a thriving society of over 120+ members in 2025/26. And we’re still growing.

We aren't afraid to push the limits of what student societies can do. Here is a taste of what we’ve been up to:

  • Hardware Hacks: We hosted KCL’s first-ever hardware hackathon, and one of the first of its kind in the UK, proudly sponsored by Corsair, Anthropic, iFixit, Qualcomm, KCLES, and NMES.
  • Competitions: We field a team for the ERC Mars Rover challenge, and we recently snagged 2nd place at Unibots, an awesome, beginner-friendly autonomous robotics competition.
  • AI Football: We hosted a chaotic, fast-paced game at King’s AI Festival where human-controlled bots battled AI-controlled bots.
  • Hands-on Workshops: From PCB Soldering and 'Vibecoding for Hardware', to an exclusive FPGA workshop sponsored by Jane Street.

At our core, we're a welcoming society of makers. Don't be intimidated by the jargon - we're here to teach, build, and grow together. If you want to take theory and wire it into something real, this is your place.
