KCL Socialist Worker Student Society is the student-led branch of the Socialist Workers Party here at King’s College London! The Socialist Workers Party is a revolutionary socialist party with branches across Britain.
WHO WE ARE ...
Our aim is to be a progressive force on campus, working with some of the amazing and already established groups at KCL. We want to bring students together and create a community where we can learn, develop and push for real change on KCL campuses. We are proudly socialist, and want to fight against all types of oppression, exploitation and environmental destruction.
1. Anti-Capitalist
We see that the problems in society come from a system, capitalism, which prioritises profit over people. We want a society which is ran from the bottom up by the majority working class, without the bosses, billionaires and landlords.
2. Anti-Imperialism and War
Imperialism and war emerge from the global system of competing capitalist states. We stand in solidarity with national liberation movements resisting imperialist attacks, and envision a world where borders no longer divide us, and the atrocities of war no longer exist.
3. Queer and Women’s Liberation
The oppression of women and the policing of queerness is rooted in the historic development and origins of capitalism. Strict gender norms and traditional family values exist to serve the ruling capitalist class. We stand by every woman, trans, non-binary, and queer person experiencing discrimination and violence at the hands of the capitalist system.
4. Fight Against the Rise of Fascism and Racism
Fascism aims to smash all working-class organisation and democracy, whilst racism remains a systematic tool of capitalist states. We will always fight against both and commit ourselves to never compromise or capitulate to fascists and racists.
5. Environmentalism and Climate Action
We believe climate change is a political issue – and that capitalism is creating a climate catastrophe. The solution to this is a system change creating a sustainable and socialist society, which doesn’t place profits over the survival of our planet.
6. Inclusivity and Accessibility
We will actively commit to our activism being accessible to all – because the fight for social justice shouldn’t just be reserved for a privileged few. Any oppressive, discriminatory language or act will be condemned. We want inclusion and diversity to be at the centre of our activities and commit ourselves to always stand up against any form of racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism and classism within the society.

Being linked to the SWP means we have access to a thriving national network of activists – and whilst we do a lot of our work on campus, opportunities arise throughout the year to meet and organise with other branches and student groups across the country.
WHAT WE DO ...
We host weekly meetings and discussions on a range of topics – from Marxist theoretical foundations, to significant historical moments, and current issues and resistance movements we can learn from as activists.
As well as our meetings, we hope to host a range of socials to build community, as well as campaign events, creative workshops, reading groups, and more! As a member of KCL SWSS, if you have an idea for an event or initiative, simply get in touch with our committee and we’ll work to make it happen alongside you!
If that sounds like something you’d be interested in – come along to one of our weekly meetings (in term time), pub socials or any other events! Membership is FREE and we can’t wait to meet you and for everyone to get involved! (and don't forget to join our whatsapp community linked above on our linktree to stay updated on everything we're doing and meet other members!)
If you have any questions – shoot us a message on our Instagram (@kclswss) or email us above :)
NOTES ON COMMITTEE
As a student group, we’re committed to running a democratic, decentralised and non-hierarchical committee. However, KCLSU policy means we must submit a name for a President and Treasurer position to remain active as a society within the SU. For admin purposes, below are the people who will be in charge of running KCL SWSS this 25/26 academic year. At the moment, we've decided to purposefully leave out specific committee positions to represent our commitments above.
