This year’s first mainstage is Assassins which will be shown at the Greenwood Theatre in February 2025!
Assassins is a revue-style musical with music by Stephen Sondheim that explores the lives and motivations of the 9 individuals across history who have attempted to assassinate a sitting US president. The show spans across time periods, locations, and music styles.
Don’t be fooled by the subject matter; Assassins is a dark comedy spanning only an hour and a half long, packed with Sondheim’s best songs, staging that will give you chills, a twisted “found family” cast of characters, punchy monologues, and choreography that dictates over 5 different time periods and dance styles. Referred to as “The most controversial musical,” Assassins puts American politics up to a mirror in a mesmerising and challenging way that will have you thinking about the show long after you leave the theatre.
Our second mainstage this year is Spring Awakening which will be shown at the Greenwood Theatre in April 2025!
Spring Awakening is a coming of age musical set in late 19th-century Germany, influenced by music with alternative rock and folk sounds. The story follows the lives of the adolescents in the community who have started to learn about their bodies and the society they live in, from a more mature perspective.
The show’s main purpose is to bring to light topics and themes that realistically play into young people’s lives in the modern world. Whilst these characters seek to understand the changes occurring to them, their parents and teachers aim to withhold information needed for the young people in the community to make educated decisions.
Apart from the mainstages, there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved such as through our socials, showcases, outreach and charity performances, 24-hour musicals and collaborations with other societies! At GKTMT we want to show that musical theatre is for everyone! We encourage anyone who wants to get involved, should it be cast, crew, orchestra or production team, to contact us and join GKT Musical Theatre!

A note from Assassin's director, Isabella Slyman!
Assassins is first mainstage this year. It’s a Sondheim show with lots of opportunities for singers, actors, and dancers alike. This show is revue-style, so everyone’s got a chance to shine. The show itself is a thought-provoking dark comedy about the 9 individuals who have attempted to assassinate sitting US presidents. Besides the assassins themselves, the show is defined by its small ensemble of narrators, small dance ensemble, and the Americans impacted by the actions of the assassins.
