Welcome to KCL Karate!
Karate is a martial art from Okinawa, a prefecture of Japan, well known for its dynamic array of explosive striking techniques, fast footwork and tricky sweeps. Karate is practiced all over the world for self-defense, fitness, fun and sport purposes. KCL Karate is open to all ability levels and interests, with a friendly and respectful attitude to training, but also push each other to be our best selves. We have a strong competitive team, boasting over 57 medals between 2023 and 2024, supported by our excellent instructors.
Whether your goals are just to try something new, get fit, learn to defend yourself, or test yourself in competition, KCL Karate offers a welcoming environment for you to reach your full potential. All of our classes are suitable for everyone, from beginner to advanced.

Frequently Asked Questions
I've never done martial arts before. Can I still join in?
Yes! KCL Karate is open to all experience levels. Beginners are always welcome.
Do I need a gi to take part?
If you've never done Karate before, we don't expect you to have a gi. If you do have a gi, by all means wear it! You will need a gi for competitions, but as long as your attire is appropriate for sports, you're always welcome to train.
What should I bring to my first session?
Sports clothes and a water bottle is all you need. If you want to use the on-site showers after training, a towel and deodorant is a good idea too.
