Welcome to KCLRFC

We're the official Rugby Club at King's! Established in 1869, KCLRFC is one 21 founding clubs of the RFU. Over 150 years later, we're still going strong.

Whether you are fresh from an academy or have never touched a ball, we want you. Freshers, Masters, Medics, everyone's welcome. We have a strong Masters cohort each year who bring experience and quality to both squads.

Playing Rugby

We run multiple squads competing in BUCS leagues every Wednesday, in addition to Saturday games with King's College Hospital RFC, our medical alumni club. As a performance club at KCL, we have a full time dedicated coach and access to team gym sessions on campus with physio support. All squads compete in additional leauge and cup competitions throughout the season, which are consistently the biggest students sports events each year.

Training happens twice weekly: Mondays at Berrylands (5pm to 7pm) and Sundays at Chiswick RFC (4pm to 6pm). Chiswick's just 22 minutes from Waterloo, making it easy to get to from campus. Can't commit to matches? Social membership lets you train and enjoy everything except game day.

Your membership gets you full playing kit, so you're sorted from day one.

The Rivalry

Varsity - KCL vs UCL Varsity is the largest student sports event in London. Over 3,000 people pack out the stands at Stone X, Ealing Trailfinders, or Richmond RFC each year. [Click to watch]

The Strand Cup - Before Christmas, we battle the LSE in the Strand Cup to determine who has the bragging rights of the Strand between the two most central universities in the UK by location [Click to watch]

Club Life

Rugby's about more than just the pitch. Post match socials happen every Wednesday. Christmas and summer dinners celebrate the season. The annual tour takes most of the club abroad after finals. The Rob Tagg memorial brings past and present players together to remember one of our own who tragically lost his life playing the game we love.

Freshers

London's a big city and rugby helps you find your place in it. You'll meet people from across the university through training and socials. No experience needed, we teach from scratch and have players at every level. Freshers regularly make both squads and many stay involved throughout their time at King's. Welcome Week sessions run before term starts properly, giving you a chance to settle in and get to know everyone.

Medics

Medics have always been central to KCLRFC. We know your schedules are tough, so we work around placements and exams. With Medics across all years in both squads, you'll have people who understand the pressure and can help you balance rugby with your studies. Can't make Wednesdays? You can also play Saturdays with Kings College Hospital RFC, our alumni club. The network you build here will last your entire career. The club also provides paid first aid, taping and physiotherapy opportunities for students who wish to be the team's medic.

Masters

We have a strong Masters cohort every year, with players joining from universities across the world. You won't be the only Masters student here, there are plenty across both squads. Whether you played at your previous uni or want to try something new, the club offers a ready made social network in London. Masters students bring quality and experience to the teams, and the shorter course length doesn't stop you getting fully involved.

Alumni Network

KCLRFC Alumni stay connected for life through Kings College Hospital RFC, our alumni club. The Old Boys network spans generations of players now working across every industry worldwide. They come back for big matches, support current players with career advice, and keep the club's traditions alive. Annual dinners and the Rob Tagg memorial game bring everyone together. Playing for KCLRFC means joining a rugby community that extends far beyond your time at King's.

Making a Difference

We raise significant money for Movember every year, supporting men's mental health and partner with the Oddballs Foundation too. This year we've launched a volunteering programme bringing rugby to underprivileged parts of London where accessing sports facilities is tough.
