About Us

The Rifle Club has a history that goes back to the nineteenth century, with records of elements of what now forms King's (Guy's particularly) having shot competitively in the very earliest days of the NRA. As a club, we believe we moved into the current range in the mid-1920s, and for a time in the early 2000s housed Reggie the Lion before his refurbishment.

Set in what used to be the Aldwych Tube Station tunnels, our firing range allows for single person prone shooting with .22 calibre bolt action target rifles. The set up ensures one-to-one coaching with one of our Range Officers every time you visit.

Sessions take place depending on Range Officer availability but are generally run on 3 - 4 days of the week, and are run as half hour individual sessions. These are posted as a sign up at the start of each week in the Whatsapp group.

We cater to all levels of experience - our members include absolute beginners to national competitors - all are welcome to join! For those who wish to shoot competitively, we send a team every year to BUCS. We have all the equipment you need to shoot with here at our range at Strand - hire and equipment costs are included in your membership fees, the only extra cost to you will be paying for your own ammunition which is approximately £6.50 per box of 50 shots.

As well as managing our range at Strand, we run trips to shoot fullbore target rifle, with annual visits to Bisley. We also have a full calendar of social events including two formal dinners in the year - at Christmas and at the End of Season Dinner!

House Rules - Strand Range Sessions

Please read these carefully. Our club is run by student volunteers and we kindly ask that you treat us with respect and kindness, and are aware of our policies and procedures as documented below.

If you are more than 10 minutes late 3 times you will be prevented from booking another training session until you have paid a £5 fine. Please research travel disruptions when planning your journey to the Strand Range via the TfL and National Rail websites. If you do not show up to your booked training session and you do not tell us in advanced you will be blocked from booking onto a further session unless you pay a £5 fine. For appeals with genuine reason please contact the Club President. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice this is treated as a late/no show unless you can find another person to take up your training slot. If you cancel with less than 24h notice 3 times you will be blocked from booking further training slots until you pay a £5 fine. By joining our club as a member, and booking onto our training sessions you agree to abide by our Club Rules, our Range Safety Rules, and all NRA/ NSRA/ KCLSU/ KCL policies. We have a ZERO tolerance policy for any inappropriate behaviour on and off the range. If you behave inappropriately or unsafely you will be immediately asked to leave by the Range Officer and such behaviour will be noted and reported to the Club President, KCLSU, Metropolitan Police, and KCL as appropriate and may trigger disciplinary action.
