Keep It Real Campaign Launches

Joseph Wiltshire, a second-year history student at King’s, is building this student-led campaign to save the true university experience at KCL: because university is not university without the opportunity to meet likeminded individuals face-to-face.

By engaging students in discussion and collective action to make their voices heard, this campaign will seek to prevent students from sleep-walking into a permanent model of ‘blended learning’ that maintains online lectures as a cost-saving device.

Our campaign aims are:

  • To get King’s to commit to a full return to on campus in person teaching (with an option to continue studying virtually).
  • For King’s to be transparent to students around the criteria that needs to be met in order for to return to full in person teaching and to be transparent about what the benefits are to maintaining lectures as online only.
  • While lectures remain online, to make clear to prospective students when applying how many in person contact hours they can expect to have a week on their course.

Students are encouraged to support the campaign and get involved. King's are banking on the idea that students do not mind watching their lectures from their beds, but we know students are smarter than that. We know that if we let this happen then university life will remain as miserable and grey as it has been for the past 18 months, with the majority of our interactions with our fellow students being a blank screen of switched off cameras. Don't let university life as we know it change for good.
