Niall and I have been working with King’s Residences this year to ensure that students who are currently in halls have the best experience they can given the circumstances. As a result, we have been able to secure no-penalty contract breaks, no payments for students who are currently not residing in residences, as well as allowing students who are unable to afford the pre-payment for accommodation next year to be exempt on a case-by-case basis. We also had many discussions about residence support for self-isolating students and managed to secure free menstrual products in all King's Residences for self-isolating students. During this time, we have ensured that the wellbeing of students has been prioritised and extra support is available.

We have also been working closely with the KCL Cut the Rent student group (@kclstudentjustice on IG) to ensure that King’s listens to students and to the demands they've made. As a result, all of their demands were agreed to in our last meeting, including allocating £50,000 to KAAS students in residences, which we'll release some more information on as soon as we have it. Other demands, such as a review of maintenance, a commitment towards increased support for accommodation issues, and a review of training for staff in halls and residences were also agreed to. 

Moving forward, we hope to increase communication between KCLSU, King's Residences, and students by committing to a charter that allows students to understand their rights and highlights the support available to all.
