Graduation is just around the corner! As the countdown begins, it's normal to feel excitement and nervousness. Here are some tips to help you make the most of the days before graduation.
1. Double-Check the Essentials
Make sure you’re all set for the ceremony:
- Gown, hood and cap: Have you hired your gown? Check the deadlines and collection details.
- Tickets: Confirm your guest tickets and keep digital/printed copies handy.
- Schedule: Know the time and location of your ceremony and any other events (like departmental receptions or class photo sessions).
KCL emails and Student Services will have the latest updates, keep an eye on them.
2. Reflect
In the rush of logistics, don’t forget the meaning behind it all. Whether it was your first freshers’ week, your favourite seminar, or late-night library marathons, take stock of how far you’ve come. Write a short note to yourself or take a walk around campus, you’re not just ending a chapter; you’re celebrating every day you lived in that chapter.
3. Appreciate the people who made King’s a better experience
Now’s the time to:
- Thank that lecturer who inspired you.
- Message the friend who pulled you through exams.
- Drop a note to a mentor, society leader, or even a barista at the campus café who made your mornings better.
Gratitude makes goodbyes more meaningful and you never know which connections might continue beyond uni.

4. Plan Your Photos
Capture your King's memories whether it’s with family, flatmates, or fellow society members:
- Visit your favourite spots around campus (The Shack, The Vault, Maughan Library).
- Coordinate group photos with friends before the ceremony rush.
- Bring a portable charger, just in case!
5. Prepare for the Day Like a Pro
Graduation day is exciting but can be long. Here’s your checklist:
- Eat breakfast.
- Bring safety pins and hair clips for your cap.
- Check the weather and plan your outfit accordingly.
- Keep tissues and water in your bag, it might get emotional!
6. Don’t Panic About the Future
Everyone’s post-grad path is different. Some have jobs lined up, others are completing a masters or still figuring things out, and both are perfectly okay. You are not “behind” anyone. Your journey is your own.
7. Soak It All In
This moment won’t come again. Let yourself feel proud. You’ve navigated lectures, deadlines, life changes, maybe even a pandemic, and you did it. Don’t worry about the perfect photo or speech or next step. Just be present. Be proud. Be you.
8. King's Support Doesn’t End Here
Just because you're graduating doesn't mean you're on your own. King's will keep supporting you long after you cross the stage. King's offers resources and support for graduates, such as career services, alumni networks, newsletters, webinars and workshops. Stay connected and take advantage of these resources to support your post-graduation journey.

From all of us at KCLSU, we’re so proud of you. No matter where you’re headed next, you’ll always be part of the King’s community!
Congratulations Class of 2025, you made it.
