Today marks Holocaust Memorial Day, an important day for us all, as it serves to remember the immense tragedy of the Holocaust.
We support Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January - the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp during the Holocaust - to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi Persecution and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
One million people were murdered in Auschwitz alone. Auschwitz is a stark reminder of how far hate can go if left unchecked, and that we must eradicate not just all forms of hate, but all forms of bias from which hate stems. There are still tragedies that take place in the world today, and we must all be united in our efforts for peace.
Genocide must still be resisted every day. Our world often feels fragile and vulnerable and we cannot be complacent. Even in the UK, prejudice and the language of hatred must be challenged by us all.
Each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future. Together we bear witness for those who endured genocide and honour the survivors and all those whose lives were changed beyond recognition.
