Last week, students under the Keep it Real Campaign called a petition for KCLSU to hold a Members’ Meeting to debate the motion ‘KCLSU calls on KCL to return to offering all lectures in person.’
The Keep It Real campaign group who called for this meeting are concerned that KCL senior decision-makers intend to maintain online lectures as a permanent fixture, as University management have yet to confirm teaching plans for Term 2 and there is no transparent approach to indicate when the University intends to reinstate in-person lectures. You can read their motion paper here.
As of today, Monday 29th November, the petition has reached quoracy (enough students have supported it), which means we are holding a members’ meeting next week to debate whether to call on the University to commit to a full return to in-person learning.
To help us represent your views and fulfill the demands of the petition, we are holding a Members’ Meeting at 5:30pm (UK time) on Monday 6 December 2021 to discuss the motion ‘KCLSU calls on KCL to return to offering all lectures in person’ and holding an online poll on this question. You can attend the meeting by joining the Teams meeting here.
You can make your voice heard by voting here. Voting opens from 5:30pm on Monday 6 December 2021 and closes 5:30pm on Wednesday 8 December (UK time).
The meeting will be an opportunity to ask questions, have your say on KCLSU’s position, as well as have your voice heard.
Can’t attend the meeting? Don’t worry, we will record the meeting and you can still vote during the polling period. Polling will remain open until 5:30pm on Wednesday 8 December (UK time).
If you would like to submit an amendment to this motion, you can email them to representation@kclsu.org. The deadline for submitting amendments is 10am on Monday 6th December.
An amendment can be a couple of bullet points indicating any changes or additions you would like to make to the motion. Amendments can include additional actions you feel the Union should take in relation to lobbying King’s on this issue, or alterations to the considerations and actions laid out in the original motion.
When voting on the motion, our members will be able to decide whether to pass any amendments first and then vote for the motion with the amendment they have just passed. Amendments will be passed by a simple majority.
If you have any questions, please email representation@kclsu.org.
