Hi everyone!

My name is Tasnia, I’ve recently just graduated from BSc Geography and I’m the new Vice President Welfare & Community! The two main objectives I’m working on this year include:

Welfare at a faculty level

Working with KCL to improve welfare support at a faculty level so students in different faculties and departments have advice and support specific to their circumstances.

  • There is currently no faculty/department lead welfare support
  • Welfare support and guidance available tends to be quite generic and holistic but students need more targeted support specific for them in their respected departments

How will I do it?

  • Understand current students access to welfare support within faculties and departments (including that of personal tutors)
  • Work with academic reps on identifying what welfare support could look like on a departmental or faculty level
  • Meet with relevant staff to discuss progress on faculty welfare leads
  • Working with faculties to signpost to students the different levels of support available for them from lower scale to counselling

How you can get involved:

  • Join discussions with academic reps
  • Keep an eye out for a survey we'll send out asking to learn more about your student experience

Financial support

Work with other officers and students on the KCL Go Fund Yourself Campaign focusing on securing a third instalment for tuition fees and financial support for students impacted by COVID.

How will I do it?

  • Work on the existing Slice the Price campaign to include a third instalment for self-funded students
  • Conduct a survey about financial implications of COVID as well as changes to KCL practises and how this impacts students
  • Work to make financial support more signposted and targeted

How you can get involved:

  • Work with students on Go Fund Yourself campaigns, more specifically with funding and tuition
  • Support from students on the ground with campaigns
  • Feel free to contact me if you want to do something regarding this!

When coming up with these manifesto points initially I did not expect to be where I am now (which is working on my bed) but what an exciting year to be apart of!

If anyone has any thoughts, queries, questions or just wants to chat feel free to email me tasnia.yasmin@kclsu.org :)
