Have Your Say and Shape the Student Experience at King’s!
The National Student Survey (NSS) is back in January 2026, giving final year undergraduates the chance to share their honest feedback on life at King’s. From teaching and academic support to wellbeing services and campus life, your thoughts help highlight what’s working well and where improvements can be made, not just for you, but for future students too!
Calling all FINAL YEAR Undergrad Students!
The NSS runs from 19 January to 30 April 2026, gathering feedback from you about your experience with King’s and KCLSU. Your responses are so important as they’ll help us, and the university understand what we are doing well and where we need to improve in the coming year.
The National Student Survey (NSS) is an independent annual survey commissioned by the Office for Students (OfS). Final year undergraduate students are given the opportunity to share their views and answer questions about overall satisfaction with the quality of their courses – including assessments, academic support, management, student voice, and wellbeing services – as well as provide open text comments about their learning experiences as a whole – positive or negative.
The NSS matters because it makes a perceptible difference to the experience students have at university. By completing the survey, students can make it clear what is, and what isn't, working for them, and King’s listen to this feedback and act on it.
The NSS has been running for over a decade, building a rich history of student feedback. In the past, this feedback has helped represent academic interests to universities across the UK, supporting the continuation of activities and campaigns students value most and driving improvements in facilities, libraries, lecture feedback, and more.
NSS results are also publicly available on the Discover Uni undergraduate course search, allowing prospective students to compare courses at different universities and colleges, and consider the opinions of those that matter most – fellow students.
So far, in the 2025/2026 academic year:
-
Advice & Wellbeing
- The KCLSU Wellbeing team have run 35 Take Time Out Hubs and a further 39 wellbeing events across all campuses since September, engaging over 1,800 students in self-care activities.
- The Buddy Scheme has seen a 14% increase in mentee engagement, improving our support offer for students who need it.
- The KCLSU Advice team have supported over 640 student cases since August, providing free, confidential advice on a wide range of topics including academic, housing, financial and wellbeing.
- KCLSU Officers
- KCLSU President, Baiyu, has made great progress towards providing culturally inclusive facilities for students. Since October, The Shack at Strand campus has been selling mooncakes, first made available to mark the mid-autumn festival and now a permanent fixture on the menu due to their popularity. Baiyu has also worked with King’s Food to ensure free hot water is available to students in multiple outlets across campuses
- Earlier in the year, Baiyu worked with King’s Student Education Directorate and KCL’s Chinese Students' and Scholars’ Association to launch a project that would enable students to generate a digital version of their degree certificate through Gradintelligence (Gradintel), ensuring students have their certificates in time to apply for jobs or sit for civil service exams.
- Your Officers have been using their positions to protect student rights. They signed an open letter calling on the Government to delay biometric checks that are preventing students from beginning their studies and voiced their support for transgender and intersex students who may have been affected by the Supreme country ruling and upcoming EHRC guidance.
- VP Activities & Development, Dulcie, and VP Welfare & Community, Fatima, have made student safety a key priority, working closely with King’s teams to strengthen the Report+Support process and ensure it better protects and supports students on campus.
- Dulcie has launched the first Sports Kit Tender alongside the KCLSU Community Development team, aiming to identify a supplier for sport and activewear to create a unified approach to physical activity at the SU.
- Fatima has worked alongside students to make progress in housing campaigns, Halls for All and Guarantor Guarantee, as well as facilitating a workshop bringing both campaign teams together, Take Action on Housing.
- VP Postgraduate, Sheeba, and Baiyu worked with Imperial to publish a UKRI paper to lobby the government for more funding for PhD students.
- Sheeba and Baiyu worked with RGSU to lobby the government to scrap their 6% international student levy in favour of a fixed, flat fee of £925. This is equivalent to 3.41% for KCL UG Arts & Science courses (£27,100) and 1.75% for Medicine courses (£53,000), effectively saving international students between £700 and £2,255 per year.
- VP Education (Arts & Sciences), Maryam, has worked with teams across King’s to make more study spaces available – including the recent upgrade to the Pavilion in the Bush House Courtyard.
- VP Education (Health), Hasnain, has campaigned for freedom of expression on campus and the Connecting Campuses shuttle bus.
- Hasnain has devoted time to enhancing social media engagement and expanding communication channels to better inform students.
- Hasnain and Maryam hosted the hugely successful RepFest 2025 alongside our Campaigns team, supporting almost 300 students to settle into their leadership roles. Fatima joined Hasnain and Maryam to facilitate deep-dive workshops helping Reps feel truly seen and heard.
- The Officer team are taking part in discussions with King’s Estates and Facilities team to ensure the student voice is heard during rent-setting negotiations.
- Student Groups, Campaigns, Volunteering & Events
- Since September, KCLSU's Community Development team have supported over 410 student groups and societies to open their doors to members and run their activities, across sports, media and common interest.
- KCLSU’s Volunteering & Events team delivered 34 KCLSU events, supported 39 student-led volunteering projects, and funded and supported 88 student-led Liberation History Month and Faith events, giving over 5,300 students the opportunity to connect with others, find their community, and build lasting relationships.
- KCLSU’s Student Voice team have supported 8 active student campaigns, plus another waiting for ratification, with significant progress already made for Connecting Campus, Pedestrianise the Strand, and Fix Report+Support.
This year, the NSS is entering all students who complete the survey before 11.59pm on 31 March into a prize draw to win one of 25 free graduation packages! The package includes tickets, gown hire, and professional photography.
The NSS is conducted independently by Ipsos, and student privacy is fully protected. Individual responses are confidential, giving students the confidence to share their honest opinions and help drive changes that matter to them. For more details on confidentiality and anonymity, take a look at the NSS FAQs section.
The NSS opens on Monday 19 January 2026, and you’ll receive an email from Ipsos with a link to take the survey. We’re committed to making life at King’s the best it can be, and your feedback helps us do just that. When the NSS goes live, please do take a few minutes to share your opinions. If you’d like more details on the NSS and how to fill it out, check out the NSS’ Guide for Students.
If you’re a final year undergraduate student, you’re eligible to share your experience, whatever your opinion may be. The survey lets you answer questions in your own way, so every perspective counts and responses are completely private, giving you the freedom to be honest without worry. Participation in the NSS is voluntary, but you are encouraged to utilise this safe, neutral space to make your voice heard and help shape the university experience at King’s.
If you’re on campus, you can also drop by the completion hubs between 11am and 2pm to fill it out (privately) in person and grab free merch, café vouchers, and sweet treats just for sharing your thoughts!
