As the term begins, your KCLSU Officer Team would like to advise students that academics with the University and College Union (UCU) at 147 universities, including at King’s College London, are currently voting on whether or not to strike over a UK-wide pay dispute.
The strike ballot is open until 19th October 2018. Strike action at KCL will only go ahead if more than 50% of UCU members at KCL vote in the ballot, and then only if more than 50% of those who voted vote for a strike.
We don’t know yet when the strikes may be or how long they may last, but the earliest that strikes can commence if they are supported by the ballot is 26th October 2018. The last time UCU members struck, including members at King’s College London, was in February and March 2018 for a total of 14 working days over a pensions dispute.
