Welcome to King’s College London!
With over 300 student groups at KCLSU, you have the opportunity to connect with students and explore your hobbies, thereby shaping your university experience. Whether you’re into sports, culture, arts, media, campaigning, or academics, there’s a place waiting for you!
Why join a student group?
There’s so much more to student groups than just the activities themselves. Many KCLSU societies are award-winning, recognised nationally for their events, outreach, and impact. Academic groups host networking nights, talks, and workshops with industry leaders, giving you an inside edge on your future career. If you’re a performer or athlete, you’ll have the chance to take part in full-scale theatre productions, concerts, or compete in sports leagues, including the legendary London Varsity series against UCL. Volunteering and campaigning groups allow you to work on real-world issues, make a difference, and develop leadership skills. And beyond all that? Student groups are where you meet your people and make some of the best memories of your time at King’s.
Explore Academic and Career Societies
Academic and career societies are perfect if you want to expand your learning beyond lectures. The KCL Law Society regularly hosts panels with top lawyers and firm recruiters. The KCL Women in STEM society hosts inspiring events designed to break barriers in science and technology, while the KCL Business Club serves as a hub for entrepreneurs, offering pitch nights and masterclasses. Joining these societies gives you access to mentorship, networking, and skill-building that can set you apart when you graduate.
Celebrate Culture and Faith
Cultural and faith societies are the heart of student life for many. Whether it’s dancing at the African & Caribbean Society’s showcase, celebrating Diwali with the KCL Hindu Society, sharing sushi at a Japan Society meet-up, or joining interfaith dialogues with the Islamic Society and the Christian Society, you’ll find spaces where identity, tradition, and community come alive. These groups don’t just celebrate culture; they create home-away-from-home spaces where you can connect, relax, and learn from one another.
Join a Sports Club
If you’re looking to stay active, try something new, or compete at a high level, KCLSU’s sports clubs have you covered. The KCL Football Club, Boat Club, and Netball Club welcome everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes, offering weekly training, competitive matches, and the chance to represent King’s at BUCS and varsity competitions. Dance enthusiasts can join the KCL Dance Society for a range of dance styles, including hip hop and ballet, with opportunities to perform at competitions and showcases.
Arts and Performance
For the creatives, King’s has a vibrant arts scene. Whether you dream of performing in musicals with King’s Musical Theatre, playing in the KCL Symphony Orchestra, or exhibiting your work with the Photography Society, there’s a space for your talent. Film Society brings together movie lovers and filmmakers for screenings and student-led productions. These groups offer not just performance opportunities but also workshops and collaborations that will inspire you throughout your time at King’s.
Share your Voice with Student Media
If you’re passionate about journalism, radio, or film, the KCLSU student media outlets are where you want to be. Roar News is King’s award-winning independent newspaper, reporting on everything from campus news to national issues. KCL Radio gives you the chance to host your own radio show, DJ live, or produce podcasts. These groups are fantastic platforms to develop your voice, creativity, and media skills.
Make a difference with Volunteering and Campaigning
Want to create real change? Join one of KCLSU’s many volunteering and campaigning groups. Whether you’re passionate about human rights with Amnesty International KCL, mental health advocacy through Mind Matters, or environmental action with KCL EcoSoc, there are countless ways to get involved. These groups organise fundraising events, awareness campaigns, workshops, and outreach projects, and they give you the tools to become a leader and changemaker.
Special Interest Groups
And of course, there are the wonderfully niche societies where you can just have fun with people who share your hobbies. Play chess at KCL Chess Society, dance to K-pop hits at KCL K-Pop Society, bake with the KCL Baking Society, or geek out at Gaming & Esports events. These groups are all about community and giving you a break from coursework.
Academic Associations
Academic Associations at KCL are representative groups for specific faculties or subject areas. These associations are student-led groups that advocate for the needs of their peers, campaign for change, and foster a sense of community and belonging within their specific departments or faculties.
KCLSU Networks
KCLSU Networks work to combat oppression, discrimination, and inequality faced by students from liberation communities, both locally and nationally. These networks serve as platforms to facilitate connection, collaboration, and collective campaigning. Take the time to research and explore the various student groups and networks available at KCLSU.
How to get involved?
It all kicks off at the KCLSU Welcome Fair on 22 September 2025. This is your chance to meet society members, explore what’s on offer, and sign up for taster events. The Fair is buzzing with energy, stalls, performances, freebies, and loads of friendly faces ready to welcome you in.
Once you’ve joined, there’s even more ahead. Every April, societies open nominations for committee roles, such as President, Treasurer, or Events Officer. If you want to shape your group’s direction, organise events, or lead campaigns, stepping up for the committee is an amazing way to build leadership skills and leave your mark.
Head to KCLSU Groups to explore all the student groups and get a feel for what excites you. This is your time to explore, connect, and make the most of everything King’s has to offer.
