Student Volunteering Week: Day 1 Highlights

svw

Student Volunteering Week got off to a strong start, with students already getting involved, making pledges, and celebrating the impact of student-led volunteering across King’s.

Kindness Pledge walls went up across campus, inviting students to reflect on how they want to give back to their communities. Many have already added their pledges, sharing small but meaningful commitments to support others. The walls will remain in place throughout the week, so there is still plenty of time to join in and add your own.

We also spotlighted the impact of School to Scrubs, an annual widening participation project delivered by Women in Medicine and Womxn in Dentistry. The one-day conference supported Year 12 and 13 students, particularly those from non-selective state schools and underrepresented backgrounds, by offering practical guidance on applying to medicine and dentistry. Read more about it here.

Day 1 also saw the delivery of Intro to Robotics: Arduino Basics, a beginner-friendly workshop designed for students without a STEM background. Participants built simple circuits using Arduino boards, LEDs and sensors, creating an accessible entry point into robotics. The session supported Womxn in STEM’s outreach work, which delivers similar workshops to girls in state schools across London.

This is only the beginning of the week. Be sure to get involved in upcoming events and follow along for more highlights via the Student Volunteering Week page.
