The final day of Student Volunteering Week brought together learning, creativity, and community action, while also celebrating the dedication of student volunteers who continue to create meaningful change throughout the year.
CPR Teaching Pop-Up
Throughout the day, students could drop in and learn essential bystander intervention skills at the CPR Teaching Pop-Up, delivered by KCL Emergency Medicine Society. The session focused on sharing life-saving knowledge in an accessible and supportive environment, helping students build confidence in responding to emergency situations and reinforcing the importance of practical, peer-led education.
Valentine’s Cards and Cakes for Global Brigades
Students also came together for a creative card-making session and bake sale hosted by Surgical Innovation Society in support of Global Brigades. Participants created thoughtful Valentine’s cards while raising funds for an important global cause, showing how creativity and community spirit can drive meaningful impact.
Student Spotlight: Pride Beats Prejudice
Day 5 also spotlighted Pride Beats Prejudice, a student-led volunteer project now in its third year, providing free LGBTQ+ focused legal advice on issues including employment discrimination, housing and immigration. Delivered in partnership with organisations such as Tower Hamlets Law Centre, Baker McKenzie and Clyde & Co, the project works to make legal support more accessible and inclusive.
The initiative is powered by a committed team of student volunteers, including Victor, who progressed from Triaging Volunteer to Volunteer Coordinator. Through supporting clients, coordinating volunteers and working with partner organisations, the team continues to demonstrate how student leadership and collaboration can create meaningful, lasting impact for London’s LGBTQ+ community.
A Week of Student Volunteering
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part, by attending events, leading projects, sharing skills, or supporting others. The energy, creativity and commitment shown by student volunteers this week reflects the incredible work happening across our community all year round.
